Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the work that is done at Grief’s Journey, helping with everything from office work, planning fundraising events, and supporting grieving families in our programs. We also offer many different training opportunities to educate the community on various aspects of grief support. Unless otherwise noted, all programs are held at Grief’s Journey, 7811 Farnam Drive.

Group Facilitators

Support group facilitators form a key group of volunteers at Grief’s Journey and know how to have fun while supporting grieving families. In order to become a group facilitator, all volunteers must first complete our 20-hour Grief Facilitator Training, a comprehensive training that prepares adults to lead grief support groups and includes a training manual and Grief’s Journey curriculum manual. Continuing education contact hours are awarded upon completion.

Family Days Volunteers

We offer seasonal family days/day camps for grieving children, teens and their families. Themes include Dia de los Muertos and Tinsel & Tears. These are extremely rewarding experiences where volunteers work with families on a series of crafts designed to help them remember those who have died. Volunteers must complete an orientation session prior to the camp.

Event Volunteers

Event volunteers help in a variety of capacities in preparation for and during our signature annual events – the Remembrance Walk and Comfort Food Classic. Various strengths and interests are necessary to help us execute and grow our events in order to support the grief programs we offer.

Office Volunteers

Office volunteers help us with many of our day-to-day tasks around Grief’s Journey to ensure that we are able to keep everything running smoothly for our programs. Examples of office volunteer activities include: assisting with mailings, organizing supplies, cleaning, and preparing craft projects for programs. Office work hours are flexible and are needed year-round!
